Founded in 1903, the Boley Rodeo stands as a powerful celebration of Black Western heritage, community pride, and a tradition that continues to unite generations.

My work is a study of culture and memory.
I make photographs to preserve what time, migration, and distance slowly change. Through film, tintype, cyanotype, long exposure, and motion blur, I document culture as something alive, fragile, and constantly moving.

As a Nigerian-born artist living in America, I use photography to hold onto culture while also studying how culture changes through movement. Through my work I ask: what remains when people cross borders? What do we carry? What do we lose? What do we reinvent?

My practice is an archive of attention.

I make work because culture lives through memory.
I make work because migration should leave more than paperwork behind.
I make work because Black life deserves reverent preservation.
I make work because beauty changes shape.

Samone Zena Kidane

Samone Zena Kidane (b. 1997, Pomona, CA) is a self-taught Los Angeles-based photographerand videographer whose work explores intersectionalidentities, love, and togetherness using analog film and photography. Kidane explores thecomplexities of identity through both real and imagined worlds. Along with making work as avisual artist throughfilm and digital formats, Kidane also works to tell impactful and underrepresented stories as aproducer and filmmaker, specializing in documentary and candid film and cinema. Aside fromPhotography, Kidane is also a co-founder of non profit organization Black Image Center, anorg that aims to make photo and image making more accessible for young black creatives.
